This is a serial telling of my falling-in-love story. Read the story from the very beginning here. Note: this is an ACTUAL email I wrote at the time (though it has been edited for clarity and relevance).
Last night I couldn't sleep. I kept tossing and turning and dreaming and hoping and wishing and praying — mostly about Jeremy, which is embarrassing, but the truth. I hardly know the guy!
Anyway. I had a dream that a husband and wife were sitting on a couch with flowered wall paper behind them, and they were both staring straight at the camera. Have you seen "When Harry Met Sally?" It's like that: they're being interviewed about how they had met. The couple discussed a conversation they'd had where they discovered that during their childhoods, they both had a similar memory of parents not wanting them to eat hot dogs. I cannot remember all the details of the dream interview, but let’s say it was something like, as a little boy, the man’s cheapskate father refused to buy him a hot dog when they went to a Yankees game for his tenth birthday. (Also, they're probably based in New York City, like every romantic comedy ever). And maybe for her, it was something like, her mother did not allow her to eat a hot dog at a church picnic because her mother was a conscientious objector (a vegetarian) and forced her views on her daughter. When this couple found out they shared childhood hot dog denial in common, that’s when they “knew”: they were made for each other.
So, it got me thinking: if I had to pick a moment to say "that's when I knew" in regards to Jeremy, I’d say it was when he did that all-out nerd/mad scientist impression on that second time I met him. He was willing to look a bit stupid to make me laugh!
I am writing and serially publishing scenes from my falling-in-love memoir, about the anguished, beautiful, and spiritual way that my husband and I met, fell in love, and married.
